Pentas is a tropical flowering plant which thrives as a perennial in warmer weather and as an annual in colder climates. They bloom all summer long adding color to your garden. This plant develops clusters of small star shaped flowers in vibrant colors which attracts humming birds and dozens of butterflies.
Pentas will grow well in an area that gets full sun. They can tolerate drought to some extent, but for healthier lush plants regular watering and occasional fertilizing is necessary. These are low maintenance plants. They can be grown in containers; to encourage bushy growth trim the overgrown or leggy stems.
Pentas propagate easily from cuttings. Once the cuttings are made, plant them in a pot and place them in a shaded location. After the cutting has developed strong roots the new plants can be repotted in a sunny location.
These are disease resistant plants. But sometimes aphids may find its place on these plants. Treat them with neem oil or any natural insecticide.
The leaves are sensitive to frost, so bring plants indoor and keep them in warmer part of the house with bright light or into the greenhouse.
